Language Innovation

Across the North, Indigenous communities understand that language carries the knowledge of ancestors, the teachings of the land, and the vision for the future.

Through the EntrepreNorth Indigenous Languages Innovators cohort, entrepreneurs from across the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut came together for a 7-month journey to build sustainable, culture-based businesses that keep Indigenous languages alive. Participants developed innovative projects - from language - integrated beadwork to virtual storytelling platforms, from land-based immersion camps to arts education programs - all rooted in the belief that entrepreneurship and cultural preservation are not separate paths, but one journey.

These businesses are more than economic ventures. They are acts of reclamation, resistance, and love. They create spaces where language is not just preserved, but lived - spoken in workshops, stitched into art, shared across digital platforms, and passed on to the next generation.

“Revitalizing language is very important among our people and we just need to keep fighting for that and reclaiming ourselves as indigenous peoples.”

- Amanda Baton, Owner, Saht’ea Adze Beadwork
